Tarpon Springs is truly unique.  Those who discover its beautiful setting, proud historic beginnings, and stable economy recognize it as a special place to be.  Perhaps as you come to sample liberally of its many charms, it will slowly become part of you and you will return again and again.

Antiques

Stroll down Tarpon Avenue and visit the many fine antique stores located here.

Sponge Docks

Tarpon Springs is known as the sponge capital of the world.  Today’s visitor can shop, eat, take cruises down the Anclote River to the Gulf of Mexico, go deep-sea fishing, visit a saltwater aquarium, see a movie depicting the sponge industry and watch a sponge diving competition.

Performing Arts Center

Housed in City Hall, this theater presents musical and dramatic productions throughout the year and has been recognized by the Pinellas Fine Arts Council for its contribution to culture in the city.

Spring Bayou-Epiphany

The Victorian homes are reminiscent of the time in the early 1900’s when this area was known as the “Golden Crescent,” famous for visits by notables of government, stage, screen, and the arts.  Craig Park, which is used for many local festivals, is located here.  The dock at the Bayou is also noted for the cross diving ceremony on Epiphany Day.  As thousands of spectators, national news reporters, and network cameras record the moment, the boys search for the cross.  The retriever emerges triumphantly from the water and is borne on the shoulders of the divers to the Archbishop and to the Cathedral.  It is believed that he receives a special lifelong blessing from God.

Fred Howard Park

A 150-acre county park west of Florida Avenue, consists of a wooded barbecue/picnic/playground area connected by a one-mile causeway to the beach area.  It is truly a jewel of the city.
